Lincoln (2012)
Written by Tony Kushner
Directed by Steven Spielberg

This is a great movie that does a great job of fictionalizing the events surrounding the passage of the 13th amendment.  In a deft display of cinematic prowess we are afforded the opportunity to reinforce our national pride for having abolished the institution of slavery while paradoxically ignoring the institutions that contribute to racial inequity that still exist 147 years later.  The story of Abraham Lincoln and the abolition of slavery is a keystone in the architecture of the American Myth and this movie is a really fun and enjoyable version of it.  Don’t break your arm patting yourself on the back.
